| 1827 | Great-great aunt Hannah is born. In September 1920, Judy says: "She's ninety-three be the clock, she is." (PoSB 57) |
| 1874 | Uncle Tom Gardiner is born. In December 1933, upon discussion that Uncle Tom was sweet on a lady, Pat exclaims, "Why, he's sixty!" (MP 31) |
| 1879 | Josiah Tillytuck is born. When Tillytuck arrives at Silver Bush in November 1934 he says, "Christian name, Josiah...age, fifty-five...in politics, Liberal...religion, fundamentalist...gentleman-at-large, symbolically speaking. And an Orangeman." (MP 20) |
| May 1894 | Judy Plum first arrives at Silver Bush. In the spring of 1935, Judy says, "Forty-one years this very May, Patsy dear, since I tuk up wid Silver Bush, hoping to put the summer in if Long Alec's mother was suited wid me...and here I do be still." (MP 54) |
| March 1905 | Long Alec and Mary Selby marry. On the day Rachel is born, this is said of Judy's silk dress: "She had had it for fifteen years, having got it in honor of the bride young Long Alec was bringing to Silver Bush." (PoSB 29) On PoSB 93, we learn that the anniversary is in March. |
| 1908 | Winnie Gardiner is born. In the fall of 1925, when Pat complains that Winnie has a steady beau, Judy points out that she is eighteen, and quite old enough. (PoSB 190) |
| Fall 1912 | Sidney Gardiner is born. |
| Late Fall 1913 | Patricia Gardiner is born. Pat says that she was five when the Armistice is signed (PoSB 197). The Armistice was signed November 11, 1918. We know from another source that her birthday is in the fall, so for her to have actually been five, her fifth birthday must have been the one in the fall of 1918. Hence she was born in Fall 1913. |
| 1914 | Grandmother Gardiner dies. The day that Rae is born, this is said of Judy's silk dress: "The last time she had worn it was six years ago at Grandmother Gardiner's funeral." (PoSB 29) |
| Summer 1920 | Pat of Silver Bush begins. |
| Summer 1920 | Rachel "Cuddles" Gardiner is born. Judy wonders how a child who has been the baby for almost seven years will handle a new child. Pat was born in late 1913, but if Rae were born in summer 1919 (and we know her birthday is in the summer), Pat wouldn't have been almost seven. She would be almost six. For her to be almost seven, it would have to be summer 1920, and her birthday just a few months away. |
| August 1920 | Pat begins school. (PoSB 34) |
| September 1920 | Hazel Gardiner marries Robert Madison. (PoSB 36) |
| September 1921 | Pat meets Jingle Gordon. (PoSB 65) |
| Summer 1922 | Bets Wilcox's family moves into Long House (PoSB 111); Judy makes the household cheese for the last time (PoSB 114). |
| Summer 1923 | Aunt Edith catches Pat dancing naked in the moonlight. (PoSB 120) |
| September 1923 | Long Alec goes looking for prospects in the West. Much to Pat's (and the rest of the family's) relief, he decided that the family should stay at Silver Bush. (PoSB 126-134) |
| September 1925 | Pat goes on a short visit to Aunt Hazel's in Summerside, but gets stuck there when the folks at Silver Bush all come down with the measles. (PoSB 153) |
| Summer 1926 | Jingle's mother visits. (PoSB 178) |
| November 1926 | Joe leaves Silver Bush. (PoSB 192) |
| July 1928 | Pat intends to take the Entrance to Queen's, but instead ends up in bed with scarlet fever. (PoSB 199) |
| April 1929 | Bets dies. (PoSB 226) |
| September 1929 | Pat goes to Queens. (PoSB 233) |
| 1932 | Hilary "Jingle" Gordon goes off to
college; Pat becomes the de facto mistress of Silver Bush. In the rush of preparations for Christmas 1934, Pat says that this would be the first real Christmas since becoming the virtual mistress of Silver Bush. The year before (1933), Frank had had bronchitis, and the one before that (1932), Hazel's family had had measles. So Pat became mistress sometime in 1932. (MP 30) We also know that Hilary left Silver Bush right around that time. |
| 1934 | Mistress Pat begins. Judy mentions that it has been thirteen years since she "wint hunting in the parsley bed for a new baby." Since Rachel was born in autumn 1920, it would be late 1933, but it is also spring, so the new year has passed, making it 1934. (MP 5) Note: all of the dates after this point are based on Mistress Pat beginning in 1934. |
| November 1934 | Josiah Tillytuck and Just Dog arrive at Silver Bush. |
| Christmas Day 1934 | Mary Laura Patricia is born, daughter of Frank and Winnie. |
| Spring 1935 | Pat learns to drive. |

| Fall 1939 | Rae becomes engaged to Brook Hamilton. |
| Fall 1940 | Sid marries May Binnie. |
| Spring 1941 | Joe marries Enid Sutton. |
| August 1941 | Aunt Edith dies suddenly. |
| Fall 1941 | Pat becomes engaged to David Kirk; Tillytuck leaves Silver Bush. |
| Summer 1942 | Hilary visits Silver Bush for the first time in ten years; Pat once again refuses to marry him. |
| Spring 1943 | Rae marries Brook Hamilton and moves to China. |
| Spring 1944 | David Kirk and Pat break their engagement; Suzanne Kirk marries and David leaves Long House. |
| November 1944 | Judy Plum dies. |
| Autumn 1945 | Silver Bush burns; Hilary comes back, and he and Pat become engaged. |
